2025 Annual Student Research Findings Symposium

The Annual Students Research Findings Symposium was held on January 14, 2025 in the Kettering Lab Complex. There were seven presentations consisting of three workshop group project as well as  four students presenting results from their Target Research Training Program (TRT) research. ERC faculty, students, and external advisory board members were present online and in-person to evaluate the presentations, give constructive feedback by asking questions, and provide an audience for students to practice presenting their work.

One workshop student group presented on:

  • Investigating the impact of workplace violence on stress and burnout for healthcare workers in long-term care and home healthcare in a prospective study, Onyinye Ezeifeka, Hannah Frame, Kera Studer, Supreet Khare
  • Assessment of mental stress and burnout for home healthcare nurses, Han Tran, Mercy Omoifo-Irefo, Julie Florentin, Judith Arthur
  • Direct observation of hazards and exposures in the patient homes for nurses and nursing aides, Frank Harris, Angie Theil, Joseph Nyakundi, Dickson Rungere

Two TRT students presented on:

  • Evidence based research supporting when ergonomics should be incorporated into aerosol assessments, Ryan Bellacov
  • Assessing exposures in home healthcare in Puerto-Rico, Amour Dondi
  • Nursing and disability: Examining the equity of nurse practice acts, Ashley Velez
  • Defining and evaluating community protection factor of various masks types, John Singletary

After the presentations concluded the group adjourned to the atrium for a reception and to further discuss research projects within the ERC.

This symposium highlights the work of workshop and TRT students and provides an opportunity to practice presentation skills and gain valuable feedback from audience members on their current projects.
