Vision
Future physician leaders who make a profound IMPAcT on their patients, communities, and medicine.
About
At the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (UCCOM), we support our students in their dreams to become clinicians and help them take the first steps towards their long-term career goals. We also know that medical school is challenging, and students need a sense of community and trusted mentors.
As we prepare students to provide compassionate, evidence-based patient care, we also help them with their overall professional development, their journey to residency training, and their personal well-being.
This program offers students longitudinal pathways beginning in their first year that provide enhanced learning experiences, a community of peers and faculty, and dedicated mentors within designated pathways of interest.
Professional development: Our students come to medical school with a wide range of interests and experiences, often with long-term career goals. We also know that today’s physicians often wear multiple hats beyond that of a clinician. We want to help our students take the first steps towards developing the knowledge and skills they will need to be successful in their future roles.
Journey to residency training: These pathways provide opportunities for our students to show residency programs what they are passionate about and to distinguish themselves from other applicants. As broad, interdisciplinary pathways, they serve as options for meaningful experiences and outcomes to help successfully land a residency position across a range of specialties.
Personal well-being: With the demands and stress of medical school, we strive to support the personal well-being of our medical students. We do this through providing a greater sense of community and genuine connections with mentors. We also give students different avenues to cultivate their interests and talents, some of which may be outside of the traditional curriculum.
Lectures and workshops: Provide educational enrichment in broad, interdisciplinary areas that align with students’ interests and long-term career goals.
Experiential learning: Create opportunities for students to engage in hands-on learning, in both clinical and non-clinical settings.
Community and mentorship: Foster a cohort of 8 medical students from every incoming class along with faculty and peers of similar interests to provide mentorship throughout their four years of medical school.
Scholarly projects: Connect students with exciting projects that allow them to take a deeper dive into a specific topic and to have a valuable product to include in their residency application.
For the 2025-2026 Academic Year, applications will open for first-year medical students in December 2025. More information to come.
