Cyndy worked as a Senior Research Assistant with over 30 years of experience working with Dr. Amit Bhattacharya and other investigators in various NIH, NIOSH/CDC, and privately funded research studies involving the use of force plates, sensors, accelerometers, and motion capture systems to evaluate postural balance, gait, and bone quality in a variety of populations from children to the elderly, from patients with neurological diseases to workers exposed to various neuro-toxicants.

Focus of work: Laurel's research focuses on quantifying, communicating, and controlling occupational and environmental exposures to health and safety hazards with the goal to reduce adverse health outcomes. She is the Principal or co-Investigator on several NIH and CDC funded grants and has completed research in a variety of high risk industries including commercial fishing, construction, logging, and health care.

Focus of work: Mary is a full-time physical therapist working in community care with focus on orthopedics (post-surgical clients), neurological conditions (i.e., clients with Parkinson's, stroke recovery), and geriatrics (focusing on balance, strengthening, and falls prevention). She also teaches at Centennial College in the Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy Assistant Program in a lab course with focus on using modalities such as ultrasound, laser, TENS, muscle stimulation, and IFC in a clinical setting.

Focus of work: Nancy’s research focuses on the use of ultrasound imaging to quantify scapular and shoulder muscle activity, to validate upper extremity orthopedic assessment tests and to determine the reliability and validity of joint mobilization techniques.  She also investigates the use of ultrasound imaging as a biofeedback mechanism to improve the muscle activation patterns in the scapula and to improve the clinical skills of physical therapy students.

Focus of work: In his current role, Steve coordinates workers’ compensation claim analyses, exposure assessment research, safety/health intervention effectiveness studies, and health services research with public and private sector partners. Steve has worked for over 19 years in the safety and health field, as both a researcher at NIOSH and as a risk control practitioner for workers’ compensation insurer.
