The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine Transplant Hepatology Fellowship is designed to prepare physicians to meet the evolving needs of both clinical and academic transplant hepatology. Fellows gain comprehensive experience through five months of inpatient training, six months of outpatient training, and one month of dedicated research. The program incorporated core ACGME requirements, including participation in liver transplant surgeries and procurements, liver pathology review, scholarly activity, and attendance at national meetings such as AASLD. Fellows actively engage in multidisciplinary conferences, pathology reviews, and teaching opportunities with medical students, residents, and GI fellows.
The fellowship offers a balanced mix of inpatient and outpatient experiences, with exposure to general hepatology, pre- and post-transplant care, endoscopy, interventional radiology, and optional procedures such as liver biopsies. Outpatient training includes a structured clinic schedule complemented by continuity clinics and endoscopy blocks. Additional electives available in liver tumor clinic, transplant surgery, pediatric hepatology, and organ procurement, with ample opportunities for clinic research. The program emphasizes both clinical expertise and academic development, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for careers in transplant hepatology.
