The internal medicine department is dependent on philanthropic support. Below is a list of funding priorities. Gregory W. Rouan, MD Endowment Fund -- Established January 2010 by Thomas E. Dewey and others. Supports the medical education efforts in Undergraduate Medical Education (UME), Graduate Medical Education (GME), and the Educational Innovation Project (EIP). Income from the fund will supplement these medical education activities and will not be used to defray existing budgeted funding from the Department.
Internal Medicine Discretionary Fund -- To support the Internal Medicine Department at its own discretion.
Internal Medicine Scholarly Training for Academic Research (IMSTAR) Fund -- To be used to cultivate future faculty members with the following stipulations: Supporting the recruitment and training of residents and fellow within one of the three targeted clinical career pathways; 1) Clinician/Education Scholars; 2) Clinician/Clinical and Translational Researcher; and 3) Clinician/Basic Science Researcher.
John C. Byrd, MD Leukemia Research Fund -- Support blood cancer research and program support. Initiatives supported include but are not limited to: research equipment, personnel, education and training, fellowship grants, etc.
Resident International Education Fund in the Department of Internal Medicine -- Established July 2013 by Sandra L. Riegler, M.D., MPH. Supports the international educational experience for residents in the UC Department of Internal Medicine. To be used for travel expenses for a resident elective program overseas or within the United States that will expose the resident to a unique cultural medical experience. The recipients must be in good standing with the Department of Internal Medicine and complete an application and interview process by the Resident Review Committee or as designated by the Chairman of Internal Medicine.
Richard W. and Sue P. Vilter Chair in Internal Medicine -- Established in March 1997 by University Internal Medicine Associates. This fund supports a Chair in Internal Medicine.
Cardiovascular Center Equipment Fund -- For state-of-the-art large equipment needs of The Center For Cardiovascular Research and Education.
Digestive Diseases Discretionary Fund -- To support the Digestive Diseases Division at its own discretion.
Diabetes and Obesity Center Fund -- To be used for the general support of the center, including fundraising expenses.
Endocrinology Discretionary Fund -- To support the Endocrinology Division at its own discretion.
General Medicine Discretionary Fund -- To support the General Medicine Division at its own discretion.
Hematology Oncology Discretionary Fund -- To support the Hematology Oncology Division at its own discretion.
Bernstein Endowment in Allergy/Clinical Immunology -- Established October 2009 by I. Leonard Bernstein, MD. Supports the education and research initiatives in allergy, also designated as allergy/clinical immunology, within the Division of Immunology.
Evelyn V. Hess, MD Endowed Chair of Lupus Research -- Established April 2009 by Michael E. Luggen, M.D. Supports a basic or clinical investigator in Systemic Lupus Erythematosis in the Division of Immunology.
Peter T. Frame, MD Endowment Fund in Infectious Diseases -- Established October 2011 by Carl J. Fichtenbaum, MD. To support the educational efforts of the Division of Infectious Diseases. This will include support of the fellowship training efforts of the Division.
Nephrology Education Fund -- To be used to fund speakers or other educational needs for the Fellows in the Division of Nephrology.
Pulmonary Discretionary Fund -- To support the Pulmonary Division at its own discretion.
Pulmonary Fellowship Development Fund -- Supports the academic and research needs of fellows within the Pulmonary Division of Internal Medicine.
Pulmonary Hypertension Fund -- To be used for patient care, education, and clinical research with the Division of Pulmonary Hypertension.
Robert G. Loudon Endowment Fund in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine -- Established March 2013 by Francis X. McCormack, M.D. and others. Supports the educational efforts of the UC Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine. This will include support of the fellowship training efforts of the Division.
The Interventional Pulmonary Research Fund -- Supports the interventional research needs within the Pulmonary Division of Internal Medicine.
