Meet the Timme Lab

Nick M. Timme, PhD
Assistant Professor
Dr. Timme received his PhD in Physics from Indiana University in 2015 under the mentorship of Dr. John Beggs. He then completed his postdoctoral training in neuroscience with Dr. Christopher Lapish at Indiana University Purdue University, Indianapolis and
the Indiana University School of Medicine. He was promoted to Assistant Research Professor in 2021. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology, Physiology, and Neurobiology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Research
in his laboratory focuses on the neural computations underlying decision-making in rodents, especially in the context of addiction.

Christopher Parker, PhD
Postdoctoral Fellow
Dr. Parker received a PhD in Systems Biology and Physiology in August 2024 working in the lab of Dr. Tongli Zhang at the University of Cincinnati. He started a postdoctoral position in the Timme lab shortly thereafter. His expertise is in mathematics, particularly differential equations and numerical optimization. The current focus of his research is developing a mathematical model of the mouse brain to investigate how decision-making processes change in aversion-resistant drug taking.

Ashley Walters
Research Assistant
Ashley Walters received her B.S. in Neuroscience and Psychology from the University of Cincinnati in 2021. Following her graduation, she spent several years working as a research technician at The Ohio State University
before returning to Cincinnati to join the Timme Lab. Broadly, she is interested in the neural circuitry of reward, particularly in the context of psychiatric disease and chronic illness. In her free time, she enjoys singing, lifting weights, and
tending to the whims of her three rambunctious dogs.

Alexis Lam
Research Assistant
Alexis Lam received her B.S. in Neuroscience with a specialization in Systems/Behavior from the Ohio State University in 2023. She now is applying her knowledge of behavioral analysis and neuronal electrophysiology to study alcohol use disorder in Dr.Timme’s
lab. Alexis plans on pursuing an M.D. and further specializing in sleep and addiction medicine.
