About the Program

he Emergency Radiology fellowship is a one-year program available to Board certified or Board eligible radiologists who have completed an ACGME-accredited radiology residency. This fellowship is not accredited.

The fellowship program provides advanced training in all modalities related to neuroimaging, abdominal imaging (including ultrasound), musculoskeletal imaging, cardiopulmonary imaging, and pediatric imaging with an emphasis on emergency radiology. Fellows will learn the skills to manage a busy and complex emergency radiology practice.

The program is well-rounded with varied experience that can serve as a solid foundation for a career in either academic medicine or private practice.

Our program offers trainees access to:

• Training by a dedicated group of emergency radiologists
• One of the most internationally acclaimed pediatric hospitals (Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center) where the fellow will spend time in emergency radiology as well as other subspecialty divisions.
• Internationally-recognized stroke program - a collaborative effort between Neuroradiology, Emergency Medicine and Neurology.
• Cutting edge technology and state-of-the art equipment.
• Large and diverse patient population at a level 1 trauma center.
• Strong didactic teaching program with multi-disciplinary exposure to Neurology, Trauma Surgery, and Emergency Medicine.
• Dedicated research time with access to departmental statistician and access to research space and laboratory facilities including the Center for Imaging Research, the Center for Surgical Innovation and the Neuroscience Institute.
• Recently upgraded PACS and voice recognition dictation.

Goals and Objectives

The primary goal of the fellowship is to produce graduates with a strong clinical background and expertise in Emergency Radiology. A secondary goal is to provide a "bridge" year between residency and practice, whether private or academic, to improve the fellow's confidence in functioning independently.

• Perform and interpret body imaging and neuroimaging studies using state-of-the-art equipment and techniques (MR, CT, ultrasound)
• Perform image-guided emergent minor procedures such as lumbar puncture, joint aspiration, and esophogram.
• Be able to provide expert consultation services to clinicians, students and other radiologists.
• Gain an understanding of special ED clinician and trauma surgeon needs and provide appropriate reports and service to the emergency department.
