Are you interested in a career as a PhD-level biomedical scientist but don't know how to get there? If so, PREP@UC may be the program for you.
The Postbaccalaureate Research Education Program at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (PREP@UC) is a one-year paid internship designed to help college graduates enter a doctoral program and achieve a career as a PhD-Level biomedical scientists. The program is open to recent graduates with a Bachelor's degree who would broaden participation in the biomedical sciences. See the 'Who should apply' tab for more information about the ideal PREP@UC candidate.
PREP@UC is funded by a grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS). Our program is designed to fill a gap in PREP program coverage in Appalachia and a need expressed to us from students and faculty in our region (southern Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, and West Virginia). However, we welcome qualified students from across the United States.
Due to the uncertainty of funding for the 2025-2026 academic year, we have decided to pause the interview and admissions process until we have received funding confirmation from the National Institute of Health (NIH). Our hope is to have an update for all applicants who completed an application by May. This timeline also means that, if the NIH funds are ultimately approved, the 2025-2026 class of Scholars would participate in an abbreviated program that would likely run from September 2025 to late May 2026.
