The 178 fourth-year medical students in the Class of 2026 celebrated a 100% match rate this March. In the words of Dean Gregory C. Postel, “We had a 100% match this year. I don’t know how we beat that. It tells you how good our students are and the reputation of the University of Cincinnati.”
Dean Postel drew the honorary first envelope, and Senior Associate Dean Philip Diller, MD, PhD, completed the second draw. Dawn Bragg, PhD, associate dean for student affairs, and Bruce Giffin, PhD, associate dean for medical education, continued the random drawing. Family and friends joined the graduates both on-stage and off to celebrate; the ceremony’s livestream was viewed by 907 individuals from 13 different countries.
The Class of 2026 matched into a multitude of programs across the country, including many nationally competitive programs at world-renowned institutions. Approximately 34% will remain in Ohio, with many matching into leading Cincinnati institutions (UC Medical Center, UC West Chester Hospital, Cincinnati Children’s, etc.). Their clinical interests were also extremely diverse, entering demanding fields such as interventional radiology and cardiothoracic surgery, as well as two triple board placements in pediatrics, psychiatry and child psychiatry.
This group of graduates is extremely successful, and they are clearly prepared to lead in their next chapter. Congratulations to the UCCoM Class of 2026!
