The 18th Research Capacity Building Workshop was held on March 14-15, 2022 at the University of Cincinnati.
The workshop is an important piece of the Pilot Research Project Program because it helps prepare individuals to write a research grant by presenting information on sources of funding, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) processes, preparing the application including the budget, and aligning research priorities with federal grant administrators.
The annual PRP symposium was held on October 13-14 in the University of Cincinnati’s Proctor Hall, Nursing College. The first talk about Total Worker Health® was given by Dr. Anita Schill from NIOSH. This comprehensive approach to worker health seemed to resonate with attendees, but many challenges still need to be overcome as the program develops. Many people, including myself, went in with the common misunderstanding that it is a wellness program, but we all came away with a better understanding of its comprehensive nature by the end of Dr. Schill’s presentation.
Seven students and one faculty member went on a two-day field trip to Industrial Indiana. Student participants were from University of Cincinnati’s (UC) industrial hygiene and occupational medicine residency programs. On Thursday, 08/18/2016, the group left UC by coach bus and visited Purdue University’s Birck Nanotechnology Center. On Friday, 08/19/2016, the group visited the Meadow Lake Wind Farm, BioTownAg Anaerobic Digester, and Liberty Landfill.
