Sub-Specialty & Allied Specialty Clinics

Clinic Description:

Throughout the duration of their training, fellows engage in rotations across a diverse array of general endocrinology and subspecialty clinics, ensuring broad and in-depth exposure to the full spectrum of outpatient endocrine care. This comprehensive clinical experience encompasses specialized services such as the Adrenal Clinic, Bone Diseases Clinic, Diabetes Technology Clinic, Thyroid Cancer Clinic, and the Transplant Clinic, each offering focused expertise in complex endocrine disorders.

The Adrenal Clinic serves as a dedicated subspecialty setting for the comprehensive evaluation and management of patients with a wide spectrum of adrenal disorders. It offers fellows a robust educational experience, enabling them to develop clinical expertise in diagnosing and treating conditions such as primary and secondary adrenal insufficiency, primary hyperaldosteronism, Cushing’s syndrome, incidentally discovered adrenal masses, pheochromocytoma, paraganglioma, adrenocortical carcinoma, and hereditary syndromes associated with adrenal pathology

The Bone Clinic offers specialized training in the evaluation and management of metabolic bone disorders, with a particular emphasis on osteoporosis and related conditions. Fellows gain in-depth experience in outpatient endocrine consultation, developing proficiency in clinical assessment, diagnostic strategies, and therapeutic approaches. Additionally, they receive comprehensive instruction in the interpretation of bone mineral density studies and other relevant imaging modalities, enhancing their ability to deliver evidence-based care in the outpatient setting.

The Diabetes Technology Clinic is dedicated to the advanced management of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus, with a strong emphasis on the integration of cutting-edge technologies. Fellows gain hands-on experience with insulin pump therapy, personal and professional continuous glucose monitoring systems, hybrid closed-loop platforms, and the suite of software tools utilized by both patients and the multidisciplinary diabetes care team. Through the interpretation of pump and sensor data, fellows develop the skills necessary to formulate individualized, data-driven treatment strategies. As emerging technologies become available, they are seamlessly incorporated into the curriculum, ensuring fellows remain at the forefront of innovation in diabetes care.

The Thyroid Cancer Clinic is a multidisciplinary initiative jointly operated by the Division of Endocrinology and the Department of Otolaryngology, offering fellows a concentrated and immersive experience in the comprehensive care of patients with thyroid malignancies. Through exposure to a broad referral base encompassing both sporadic and hereditary cases from across the tristate region, fellows gain invaluable expertise in the management of thyroid cancer across the risk spectrum—from indolent, low-risk disease to complex, high-risk presentations. The clinic emphasizes longitudinal patient care, encompassing diagnostic evaluation, therapeutic planning, and ongoing surveillance. Additionally, fellows receive hands-on training in neck ultrasonography, an essential skill for the monitoring and follow-up of thyroid cancer patients.

The Transplant Clinic provides specialized training in the evaluation and management of endocrine complications associated with solid organ transplantation, with a primary focus on renal and hepatic transplant recipients. Fellows gain expertise in optimizing glycemic control and selecting appropriate diabetes pharmacotherapy tailored to the unique needs of transplant patients. The curriculum also emphasizes the management of secondary adrenal insufficiency resulting from prolonged corticosteroid therapy, as well as the assessment and treatment of transplant-related bone loss and other endocrine disorders. This focused experience equips fellows with the clinical acumen necessary to navigate the complex interplay between endocrine health and transplant medicine.
