The fellowship program in Epilepsy is a one-year learning experience in EEG, epilepsy monitoring and clinical epilepsy.
Epilepsy fellows rotate training at UC Health University of Cincinnati Medical Center and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. Both UC Health University of Cincinnati Medical Center and Cincinnati Children's have active epilepsy surgery programs, evaluating over 500 patients per year. This includes Phase II video/EEG monitoring with subdural, depth or stereo/EEG electrodes used on selected patients. Intraoperative language and motor/sensory mappings are also performed. Imaging modalities utilized include high resolution 3T-MRI, PET, SPECT, functional MRI, and MEG. Our Center also offers Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) of the anterior thalamic nuclei, Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS), and Responsive Neural Stimulation (RNS) for selected patients with refractory epilepsy.
Training also includes EEG, continuous EEG in the ICU, prolonged video/EEG monitoring, epilepsy surgery, outpatient epilepsy management, and research methods. A critical epilepsy focus is available
The fellowship is accredited by the American Council of Graduate Medical Education and Epilepsy fellows qualify for the Epilepsy board examinations.
