The Division of Musculoskeletal Oncology treats patients with benign and malignant tumors of the musculoskeletal system, including bone and soft tissue sarcoma of the extremities and pelvis, peripheral nerve sheath tumors, and metastatic bone disease. Interdisciplinary care is emphasized, through collaboration with medical and radiation oncology, surgical pathology, and musculoskeletal radiology teams, both in day-to-day patient care and by participation in the Musculoskeletal Tumor Board.
Trainees will gain expertise in the evaluation and management of patients with complex problems requiring individualized solutions. They will be exposed to a wide spectrum of resection and reconstructive techniques, including intraoperative navigation for pelvic and sacral tumor resections, design and implementation of patient-specific custom implants, distraction osteogenesis of intercalary defects, and percutaneous ablation and cement-augmented fixation of peri-articular metastatic disease
