Academics & Collaboration

The Division is multidisciplinary, collaborating closely with other divisions within the Department of Environmental & Public Health Sciences and with clinical departments across the College of Medicine. Residency Program

The University of Cincinnati offers the oldest Occupational & Environmental Medicine residency program in the United States. Each year, two to four residents typically complete training and move into roles in academia, industry, and local, state, or federal agencies.

The residency is supported in part by a NIOSH Education and Research Center (ERC) training grant awarded to the University of Cincinnati.

Research Areas

Current and recent projects span multiple domains, including:

  • Work-related and environmentally associated respiratory disease (e.g., asthma, bronchiolitis obliterans)
  • Solvent and other chemical exposures and their health impacts
  • Firefighter health and occupational risk profiles
  • Improved methods of pulmonary function testing and interpretation
  • Injury prevention across diverse occupational settings
