• Impairment & disability evaluations — standardized ratings with clear documentation. fitness-for-duty, essential job functions, and reasonable accommodation guidance.
• Pulmonary medicine & toxicology — exposure assessment, pulmonary function testing, and evidence-based management.
• Urine drug testing — oversight and Medical Review Officer (MRO) assessments.
• DOT (FMCSA) examinations — commercial driver medical certification.
• Onboarding new employees — immunizations, tuberculosis screening, histories and physical examinations, and accommodations.
• Surveillance programs – hearing/ BBP/ asbestos/ Laboratory Animals Medical Services
• Immunization programs – running the flu brigades

• Pre-employment evaluations (onboarding) — job-specific risk assessment and baseline health screening.
• Respiratory protection — respirator fit testing and training with education on safe use and monitoring.
• Hearing conservation — audiometry and participation in the UC Hearing Conservation Program

As part of their training, our Occupational and Environmental Medicine residents actively participate in UC Health’s Hearing Conservation Program—an initiative designed to prevent workplace-related hearing loss through education, screening, and evidence-based interventions.  Through opportunities like this, our residents develop the skills needed to lead prevention efforts and improve worker health in diverse occupational settings.
