Global Health Fellowship

The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine’s Department of Family & Community Medicine (UCDFCM), Division of Urban Underserved and Global Health, offers a Global Health Fellowship designed for physicians with a passion for providing care in resource-limited settings and enhancing their expertise in advocacy, teaching, and service. Fellows may choose a one-year or two-year track, with tuition remission available for those pursuing a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Global Health or a Master of Science in Clinical and Translational Research.

This is a non-ACGME-accredited fellowship in which fellows are appointed as entry-level faculty members in the Department of Family & Community Medicine. Fellows will provide primary care in Cincinnati through a City of Cincinnati Primary Care location operated by the Cincinnati Health Department—serving many of the region’s immigrant and refugee communities.

With a flexible clinical schedule, fellows may tailor their experience by pursuing additional training in areas such as:

  • Forensic medical evaluations in partnership with the Immigrant & Refugee Law Center
  • Point-of-Care Ultrasound
  • Tropical Medicine or Infectious Disease
  • A Graduate Certificate or Master’s degree at the University of Cincinnati

Fellows will also spend approximately four weeks per year providing care abroad through one of our international partners—Wuqu’ Kawoq / Maya Health Alliance in Guatemala or Village Life Outreach Project in Tanzania.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Completion of a U.S. ACGME-accredited Family Medicine Residency in good standing
  • Board eligibility with the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM)
  • Eligibility for an Ohio medical license by the fellowship start date
  • Demonstrated interest in global health through prior educational or clinical experiences, such as a relevant global health rotation during medical school or residency
