Graduates will work both locally, in academic roles, and nationally, as community-based palliative care providers.
The goals of the program include
- Describe and apply strategies for alleviation of physical and psychological distress in patients and families coping with serious illness
- Apply communication skills to break bad news, to establish goals of care with patients and families, and to address conflict in patient, family, and team interactions
- Work in interdisciplinary teams
- Work in a variety of community-based systems including hospice, nursing facilities, and outpatient palliative care
- Care for the imminently dying patient
- Teach the principles of palliative care, including quality improvement and evidence-based practice.
