The Transplant Hepatology Fellowship Program is an ACGME-accredited training program closely affiliated with University Hospital, the only liver transplant center in Southwest Ohio. University of Cincinnati Medical Center performs approximately 60 transplants annually.

Our staff of four full-time hepatologists is committed to providing outstanding clinical care, conducting cutting-edge, laboratory-based and clinical research and promoting a strong educational environment for our trainees.
Fellows will have an opportunity to care for patients with a breadth of hepatic disorders in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. In addition to the inpatient experience on the University Hospital Liver Consult service, a number of ambulatory opportunities are available:
A multidisciplinary clinic (involving the coordinated interaction of hepatologists, transplant surgeons, PAs, NPs, social workers) for the assessment and evaluation of the suitability of patients with liver disease for liver transplantation, and for the management of these patients until receiving a transplant.
Provides care to patients who have undergone liver transplantation. Liver transplant fellows are responsible for the longitudinal management and follow-up of these patients. Experience in managing and monitoring immunosuppression and complications of liver transplantation will be emphasized.
Focuses on the management of liver transplant recipients with recurrent hepatitis C.
Fellows will gain experience in the diagnosis, treatment, and pre-transplant management of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma, including the administration of sorafenib.
The Hepatology Clinic at University Hospital provides care to a general mix of patients with a variety of liver disease in a private practice-type setting. This clinic is staffed by a single Hepatology attending who has no other teaching responsibilities except to the liver transplant fellow.
Provides care to veterans with a variety of liver diseases and also offers an opportunity to perform outpatient procedures (e.g., liver biopsy, large-volume paracentesis).
