We strive to ensure that all our residents are top notch clinicians at the end of residency and are prepared for any career path (whether primary care, hospital medicine, or fellowship training). Our carefully constructed clinic experience ensures that our residents are exceptional primary care physicians regardless of their chosen field. Our residents’ success is our success!
Our Ambulatory Medical Education (AME) series includes weekly case-based discussions at the beginning of each clinic session to expose residents to a variety of adult and pediatric outpatient topics. We have thoughtfully constructed this content to ensure residents are exposed to a variety of ambulatory topics over their 4-year residency. Our clinic schedule templates are constructed in a way to prioritize this education time for residents.
We also have multiple noon conferences throughout the year led by our ambulatory faculty. These conferences are focused on a variety of "bread and butter" primary care topics such as well child care, asthma, ADHD, diabetes, billing, and many more!
Primary Care Pathway educational events occur quarterly and topics are selected based on resident interest and input. These events are open to all residents who are interested in additional ambulatory educational experiences.
Our program strives to provide robust, experiential quality improvement training during residency. Our quality improvement education is led by Dr. Abigail Nye who is one of our core faculty members and has advanced training in QI. During clinic blocks and elective rotations, our residents attend weekly quality improvement meetings to learn the foundation and principles of quality improvement and to participate in clinic-based quality improvement initiatives. In recent years, our residents have completed projects focused on improving sexual health screening, childhood lead screening, and lung cancer screening. For the 2025-2026 academic year they will be starting a new project! The topic will be determined based on resident and faculty input, and careful analysis of potential projects through a resident-driven process called "Defense of the Measures". See our quality improvement curriculum page for more information!
