Training and Research

Training include five months of inpatient training, six months of outpatient training, and one month dedicated to research experience.

Inpatient Training

• Complete liver months of inpatient liver consults, including general hepatology, pre-transplant evaluation, and post-transplant care
• Morning rounds with transplant surgery service on Mondays and Fridays
• Facilitating transfers with inpatient hepatology APP
• Provide regular teaching to medical students and residents with opportunities to give formal didactics
• Our transplant center performs about 120-150 transplants each year, including living-donors, and liver-kidney

Outpatient Training

• During outpatient rotations, transplant fellows will have two general hepatology clinics, one pre-transplant, and 2 post-transplant clinics each week
• Fellows will also have one to two half-days dedicated endoscopy time to maintain and develop their endoscopic skills
• Fellows continuity clinic (general hepatology) - Tuesday PM
• Post-transplant clinic - Monday AM and Tuesday AM
• Pre-transplant clinic - Monday PM
• General hepatology clinic - Wednesday AM
• Opportunities for time with interventional radiology to observe procedures such as TIPS/TACE/BRTO
• Dedicated time to develop skills in paracentesis
• Optional training in percutaneous liver biopsies
• One-on-one liver pathology education with dedicated liver pathologists
  

Outpatient Endoscopy

• Thursdays 8AM to 12PM
• Fridays 8AM - 12PM

Fellows participate in many ongoing and new clinical research projects related to liver disease or liver transplant.
