Values

The UC MPH Program is dedicated to the promotion and improvement of community and population health. The program promotes and values the following core principles:

Population and Community Health

  • Health is a public good and a fundamental right of all people.
  • Fair and ethical treatment of all people; and
  • Public health as a means for improving and maintaining the health of communities-locally, nationally, and globally.

Scientific and Academic Integrity

  • Use of the scientific method to identify basic conditions necessary for optimum public health, to protect the public’s health and to promote good health practices for populations and individuals and
  • Maintain and promote the highest standards of productivity, objectivity, accountability, transparency, and professionalism in all activities coupled with open and honest communication among students, staff, faculty, and community partners.

Evidence-Based Multidisciplinary Approaches

  • Research and its practical applications as an underpinning of evidence-based public health.
  • A learning environment based on multidisciplinary teamwork that fosters high quality education, imparts a sense of excitement in the acquisition of new knowledge, and communicates the importance and value of public health; and
  • Continuous quality improvement as a means for enhancing the value and reputation of the program and its students, staff, and faculty.

Engagement and Advocacy

  • Community engagement as a core element in the education of students, conduct of research, and provision of service and
  • Increasing awareness and support for a robust, comprehensive public health agenda.

  • To prepare knowledgeable and effective public health professionals through an interdisciplinary curriculum.

Goal 2: Research

  • To advance knowledge in public health through conduct and dissemination of high-quality and evidence-based research.

Goal 3: Service

  • To engage, serve, and partner with communities through service and outreach partnerships.
